How do I compare text horizontally?

Comparing text would be lots more useful if I could also compare horizontally. How can I achieve this and what exactly do Tile Horizontally and Tile Vertically do?

I'm not sure if it will display as you expect, but if you uncheck the View → Split Vertically menu item, the panes will be arranged vertically.

Tile Horizontally and Tile Vertically are meaningful when you have multiple comparison windows open. They are displayed as follows.
