Winetricks GUI consistency between desktop environments

Winetricks should probably force YAD / Zenity for all users due to the lack of consistency presented when using kdialog.

IIRC Yad is not relevant for Winetricks; it's only relevant for Protontricks. Zenity should be the one forced on everyone because Kdialog is really lacking in terms of visual "correctness".

And then the "--gui" option removed.

What inconsistencies are you referring to?

I haven't seen any complaints from KDE users about visual inconsistencies, so I don't see why it should be removed and force KDE users to install a bunch of extra packages if they want a GUI.

Hi there, I'll cite my own words from the Fedora downstream bug report:

When using this package on KDE, kdialog is used instead of zenity, which causes some visual inconsistencies and problems.

First visual inconsistency is when opening protontricks: it always uses zenity for the app chooser dialog.

Second, there's an issue after using "Select the default wineprefix", in which there's an empty option at the bottom to select. Not sure what it does, I'm afraid to test.

Thirdly, when using the "Install a Windows component" option, in zenity there would be checkboxes, but in kdialog only the background is highlighted, which does not make it clear that it is selectable (for some users it may look like it is bugged).

The solution to all of this would be to improve kdialog, which I think it's not something this package (protontricks) is able to do, so the alternative and better solution IMO would be to force zenity for KDE users. KDE already themes GTK apps so it wouldn't look too bad. At least it would not have such problems.

Can you attach a screenshot?

Actually that's wrong, I meant it uses yad (protontricks at least, that's where I use it from).
Not sure if the initial dialog uses kdialog in winetricks.
