Website updates for WordPress 6.8

See the 6.8 About page ticket

This issue will track changes needed on the site for the 6.8 release.

• Update the Homepage "See what's new" blurb & image which directly reference 6.7
• Create a 6.8 release page ("microsite")

We could also update the Blocks page, which has a section "See what's new with blocks" – if there's anything worth noting. If not, it's fine, the content does not directly reference a version (and the link will automatically update to 6.8 when it's released).

@marybaum @michelleames @karmatosed — FYI this is the place to coordinate the "microsite" release page. I've created the page on WordPress.org: https://wordpress.org/download/releases/6-8/

@karmatosed I've added you to the site as a Designer, which means you should be able to edit that page. I've copied over the 6.7 page to give you a head start on the layout, but feel free to change it up. I can also copy in the current About page text if that would help. While working, you can preview what this will look like with the "preview in new tab". You can save your work as you go, the page content is hidden publicly behind the "in progress" template.

Copying across any of the copy/content from the About page should help jumpstart the effort here, thanks @ryelle!

I've switched out the content and removed the 6.7 videos from the page, but haven't added any of the images & didn't change the colors of each section. I also left the header background alone so it's clear that we can change that. It should be ready for @karmatosed to get in there and do design magic 🙂

Here's what the page looks like currently:

Note that we'll switch out the template for the white-with-border header nav and black background footer, like the 6.7 page— unless we want a different style, the header can also be dark if you want to do a dark Hero section. (I can explain this better if it's not clear)

We'll also need to update that "750" number, has that been tallied yet?

@ryelle I jumped in there today but I don't seem to either see your changes or be able to edit. It might be due to the revisions - I can see older one with it all but I can't bring it back? This is what I see:

List view is also empty for me which tells me it's access perhaps?

Ugh, that template setting is the worst. I thought it would save per page, not per user. If you turn it off, you'll be able to see the real page content. Under View, uncheck "Show page template"

Yup that’s what I see too.

With Edit access I can check copy directly in the car. That’s the access I have to News, and I’m an admin on the dev blog

@marybaum I've added you as an editor, so you should be able to preview the page with this link: https://wordpress.org/download/releases/6-8/?preview_id=45991&preview=true — If that doesn't work, go in to edit the page and disable the "Show template" option under View.

Wait, why were there copy edits? The content should be the same as the About page. I thought you just wanted to see the copy for the videos.

Or maybe adding more content, that wasn't out of scope if there were more things to add the "And much more" section - since it looks pretty sparse now with just one item.
