Hi, I get this error message "easyeda2kicad not found, please install it first with pip install easyeda2kicad " , even though easyeda2kicad is installed on my system.

If not, can you run easyeda2kicad from the terminal with python?

Same result after restarting Kicad and reopening a project. easyeda2kicad works fine from the terminal though.

I got it working by hardcoding the easyeda2kicad module path of my system Python framework like this :

easyeda2kicad is installed and runs from the terminal successfully - just can't be located using the KiCad plugin

The following worked for me

Open the KiCad scripting console (Tools > Scripting Console in PCBNew).
Run:

import sys
print(sys.executable)

Note the python executable path, and use it install easyeda2kicad in Kicads python environment with

/path/to/kicad/python -m pip install easyeda2kicad

In my case on MacOS was
/Applications/KiCad/KiCad.app/Contents/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.9/bin/python3.9 -m pip install easyeda2kicad

Restart Kicad

KiCad has this built in now for anyone wondering. Just create a footprint as per usual but import the JSON from Easyeda

for me getting the python path using "import sys print(sys.executable)" did not work. Instead I found the Path path in Setting - Plugins - Path to Python Interpreter. Here I also tried to use my system path instead but that didn't work.

The problem for me is on MacOS with Apple silicon and seems to be tied to an architecture mismatch. The following procedure has fixed it for me.

Get your system's paths
You may need to change the paths listed below to match what your system is using.
Open KiCad's scripting console (Tools → Scripting Console). Then paste and run each of the following lines one at a time.

print(sys.executable)
print(sys.path)

Remove the old files:

rm -rf /Applications/KiCad/KiCad.app/Contents/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.9/lib/python3.9/site-packages/pydantic_core
rm -rf /Applications/KiCad/KiCad.app/Contents/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.9/lib/python3.9/site-packages/pydantic
rm -rf /Applications/KiCad/KiCad.app/Contents/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.9/lib/python3.9/site-packages/pydantic_core*.dist-info
rm -rf /Applications/KiCad/KiCad.app/Contents/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.9/lib/python3.9/site-packages/pydantic*.dist-info

Reinstall pydantic with correct architecture

/Applications/KiCad/KiCad.app/Contents/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/Current/bin/python3 -m pip install --force-reinstall --no-cache-dir --platform macosx_11_0_arm64 --only-binary=:all: --target

Reinstall easyeda2kicad

/Applications/KiCad/KiCad.app/Contents/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/Current/bin/python3 -m pip install --no-deps --force-reinstall --no-cache-dir easyeda2kicad

Verify it says arm64

file /Applications/KiCad/KiCad.app/Contents/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.9/lib/python3.9/site-packages/pydantic_core/_pydantic_core.cpython-39-darwin.so

Restart KiCAD and try the plugin

To summarize:
KiCad ships as a universal binary (x86_64 + arm64) and on Apple Silicon Macs it runs natively as arm64. However, its bundled Python 3.9 reports itself as x86_64. This causes pip to download x86_64 compiled wheels for packages with native extensions (like pydantic_core). When KiCad — running as arm64 — tries to load these x86_64 .so files, the import fails with an incompatible architecture error.

The EasyEDA Parts plugin depends on easyeda2kicad, which depends on pydantic, which depends on pydantic_core (a compiled native extension). Because of the architecture mismatch, pydantic_core fails to load, the import silently falls back to None, and the plugin reports "easyeda2kicad not found."

The fix that worked for me is to remove the incorrectly-compiled packages, explicitly reinstall pydantic and pydantic_core with arm64 wheels using the --platform flag, then reinstall easyeda2kicad without its dependencies (to avoid re-pulling the wrong architecture). This needs to be repeated after each KiCad update, as the update replaces the site-packages directory.
