Contract Deployment CLI Feature Implementation

Overview

A complete CLI command (soroban-registry contract deploy) has been implemented to enable users to deploy and register new contracts in the Soroban Registry. This feature addresses the critical gap in registry adoption by providing a streamlined, user-friendly deployment workflow.

Implementation Summary

New Files Created

  1. cli/src/contract_deploy.rs - Main deployment module (690+ lines)

    • WASM file validation with magic byte verification
    • Contract hash computation (SHA-256)
    • Contract ABI extraction from WASM binaries
    • Metadata validation and submission
    • Icon file upload support
    • Interactive deployment mode
    • Comprehensive error handling and user feedback
  2. cli/tests/contract_deploy_tests.rs - Test suite (400+ lines)

    • 40 acceptance criteria test cases
    • Usage examples
    • Integration test scenarios

Files Modified

  1. cli/src/main.rs

    • Added mod contract_deploy; module declaration
    • Added Deploy variant to ContractCommands enum
    • Added dispatch logic to handle the new command
  2. cli/Cargo.toml

    • Added multipart feature to reqwest for icon uploads

Feature Implementation Details

1. WASM File Validation ✓

Validates:

  • File existence and readability
  • WASM magic bytes: 0x00 0x61 0x73 0x6d (\0asm)
  • File size limits (max 10 MB)
  • Minimum file size (at least 4 bytes)

Error Handling:

  • Clear error messages for each validation failure
  • Prevents registration of corrupted files

2. Contract Hash Computation ✓

Implementation:

  • SHA-256 hash of the entire WASM binary
  • Streaming hash computation for large files
  • Stored in database for verification

Output:

  • Human-readable hash display in CLI

3. Metadata Collection ✓

Supported Fields:

  • --name (required): Contract name (max 255 characters)
  • --description (optional): Contract description (max 5000 characters)
  • --category (optional): One of [DeFi, Token, Oracle, NFT, Utility, Other]
  • --network (required): One of [mainnet, testnet, futurenet]
  • --tags (optional): Comma-separated tags
  • --icon (optional): Path to icon file
  • --publisher (optional): Publisher Stellar address

Validation:

  • Required fields checked
  • String length limits enforced
  • Category validation against allowed values
  • Network validation

4. Contract ABI Extraction ✓

Implementation:

soroban contract bindings json --wasm <path>

Extracts:

  • Contract functions with signatures
  • Input/output types
  • Custom type definitions
  • Documentation strings

Graceful Fallback:

  • If soroban CLI unavailable, continues with empty ABI
  • --skip-abi flag to skip extraction

Output:

  • Function count displayed
  • Type count displayed
  • Full ABI JSON available

5. Icon Upload Support ✓

Supported Formats:

  • PNG (verified magic bytes: 89 50 4E 47 0D 0A 1A 0A)
  • JPG/JPEG (verified magic bytes: FF D8 FF)
  • SVG (verified as valid XML)

Validation:

  • File existence check
  • Format validation by extension and magic bytes
  • File size limit (max 2 MB)
  • Corruption detection

Upload:

  • Multipart form upload to /api/contracts/{id}/icon
  • Automatic format detection
  • Error handling with retry logic

6. Interactive Mode ✓
