Recipe Integration transforms your Grocery List app into a complete meal planning solution. You can:
- Create & Store Recipes - Save all your favorite recipes in one place
- Plan Your Meals - Schedule recipes for specific days and meal times
- Generate Shopping Lists - Automatically create grocery lists from your meal plans
- Organize Collections - Group related recipes into collections
- Share Recipes - Make recipes public for others to discover
Before you begin:
- β You must have an account (Sign up if you haven't)
- β You must be logged in
- β You should have at least one grocery list created
- β Basic familiarity with the grocery list features

- Click on the hamburger menu (β°) in the top-left
- Select "Recipes" to manage your recipes
- Select "Meal Planner" to plan your meals
- Select "Collections" to organize recipes

Recipe Title (Required)
- Enter a descriptive name for your recipe

- Maximum 255 characters
Description (Optional)
- Brief description of the dish
- What makes this recipe special?
- Examples: "A family favorite for Sunday dinners", "Perfect for busy weeknights"
Instructions (Optional but recommended)
- Step-by-step cooking instructions
- Use numbered steps for clarity
- Example:
1. Preheat oven to 375Β°F 2. Mix dry ingredients in large bowl 3. Add wet ingredients and stir until combined 4. Pour into greased pan 5. Bake for 25-30 minutes
Prep Time (Optional)
- Time needed to prepare ingredients
- Enter in minutes
- Example: 15 (minutes)
Cook Time (Optional)
- Time needed to cook the dish
- Enter in minutes
- Example: 30 (minutes)
Servings (Optional, default: 4)
- Number of servings the recipe makes
- Used for shopping list calculations
- Example: 6
Difficulty (Optional)
- Choose: Easy, Medium, or Hard
- Helps you quickly identify simple recipes
- Example: Easy
Cuisine Type (Optional)
- Type of cuisine (Italian, Mexican, Asian, etc.)
- Used for filtering recipes
- Example: Italian
Image URL (Optional)
- Link to a photo of your dish
- Must be a valid URL
- Example: https://example.com/lasagna.jpg

Example Ingredients:

Reorder Ingredients:
- Drag and drop ingredients to reorder them
- Or use the ββ buttons to move items
- Order matters for recipe clarity!
Edit Ingredients:
- Click the βοΈ (edit) button next to any ingredient
- Modify any field
- Click "Save" to confirm changes
Delete Ingredients:
- Click the ποΈ (trash) button next to any ingredient
- Confirm deletion in the dialog
Private Recipe (Default)
- Only you can see and use this recipe
- Safe for personal recipes
Public Recipe
- Other users can discover and use your recipe
- Your name will appear as the author
- You can change this setting anytime
- Review all information
- Click "Save Recipe" button
- Your recipe is now saved!
- You'll be returned to the recipe list

Each ingredient in your recipe has several properties:
Name - What the ingredient is
- Required field
- Be specific: "All-purpose flour" vs "Flour"
- Use consistent naming for better shopping lists
Quantity - How much you need
- Optional but recommended
- Use numbers: 2, 1.5, 0.5
- Can be fractional
Unit - Unit of measurement
- Optional but recommended
- Common units: cups, tbsp, tsp, oz, lb, g, kg
- Use standard abbreviations
Category - Grocery category
- Optional but very helpful
- Used to organize shopping lists
- Options: Produce, Dairy, Meat, Bakery, Pantry, Frozen, Beverages, Other
- Auto-maps to your grocery list categories
Notes - Preparation instructions
- Optional but can be very useful
- Examples: "finely chopped", "room temperature", "diced"
- Include important details like "15 oz can"
Method 1: One at a Time
- Click "+ Add Ingredient"
- Fill in details
- Click "Add"

- Paste ingredient list from clipboard
- AI parsing of quantities and units
- Quick import from other recipes
Edit Individual Ingredient:
- Find the ingredient in the list
- Click the βοΈ (edit) icon
- Modify any field
- Click "Save Changes"
Edit Multiple Ingredients:
- Edit recipe (click "Edit Recipe" button)
- Make changes to multiple ingredients
- Save the entire recipe

Good: All volume in cups (1 cup, 0.5 cup, 0.25 cup)
Bad: Mix of units (1 cup, 4 oz, 2 tbsp) - harder to scale

The meal planner shows:
- Calendar View: 7-day week view
- 4 Meal Slots per Day: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack
- Week Navigation: Previous/Next week buttons
- Current Date Indicator: Today is highlighted
- Quick Actions: Add, edit, delete meals
Method 1: Click to Add
- Navigate to the Meal Planner page
- Find the date and meal type (e.g., Monday Dinner)
- Click the empty meal slot (or "+ Add Recipe" button)
- Select a recipe from the dialog
- Confirm the addition
Method 2: Drag and Drop (Coming Soon)
- Open recipe list sidebar
- Drag recipe to meal slot
- Drop to assign
Each meal slot shows:
- Recipe Name: Quick identification
- Recipe Image: Visual preview
- Cooking Time: Total prep + cook time
- Servings: Number of servings
- Cooked Status: Checkbox to mark as cooked
- Click on the meal slot
- Click "Edit" from the action menu
- Modify:
- Date: Change to different day
- Meal Type: Change breakfast to lunch, etc.
- Servings: Adjust serving count
- Notes: Add special notes
- Click "Save Changes"
Why mark meals as cooked?
- Track which meals you've completed
- Skip cooked meals when generating shopping lists
- See your cooking progress for the week
How to mark as cooked:
- Find the meal on the planner
- Check the "Cooked" checkbox
- Or click meal β "Mark as Cooked" from menu
- Click on the meal slot
- Click "Delete" from the action menu
- Confirm deletion
- The slot returns to empty state
View Different Weeks:
- Click "β Previous Week" to go back
- Click "Next Week βΆ" to go forward
- Use keyboard: β (previous), β (next)
Return to Current Week:

Step 1: Plan Your Meals
- Add recipes to your meal planner
- Choose a date range (e.g., Monday-Sunday)
- Ensure meals are not marked as cooked
Step 2: Open List Generator
- Go to Meal Planner page
- Click "Generate Shopping List" button
- The generator dialog opens
Step 3: Select Date Range
- Choose Start Date (e.g., Oct 28, 2025)
- Choose End Date (e.g., Nov 3, 2025)
- Usually select Monday - Sunday for weekly shopping
Step 4: Choose Destination
Option A: Preview Only
- Don't select a grocery list
- Click "Generate"
- Review ingredient list
- Copy to clipboard or screenshot

Option B: Add to Existing List
- Select a grocery list from dropdown
- Click "Generate & Add to List"

Ingredient Aggregation: The system combines duplicate ingredients:
Recipe 1: 2 cups flour
Recipe 2: 1 cup flour
Generated: 3 cups flour (2 + 1)
Category Organization: Ingredients grouped by category:
Produce:

Dairy:
- 2 cups milk

How to make a recipe public:
- Open the recipe in edit mode
- Toggle "Make Public" switch to ON
- Save the recipe
- Your name will appear as the author
What happens when you share:

- β Others CANNOT edit your original recipe

To make a recipe private again:
- Open the recipe in edit mode
- Toggle "Make Public" switch to OFF
- Save the recipe
- Recipe is now private (only you can see it)
Browse Public Recipes:
- Go to Recipes page
- Click "Browse Public Recipes" tab
- See recipes shared by other users
- Filter and search as normal
Search All Recipes:
- Use the search bar
- Toggle "Include Public Recipes"
- Search across your recipes + public recipes
- Results show author name for public recipes
Using Public Recipes:
- Find a recipe you like
- Click "Duplicate" button
- The recipe is copied to your account
- Edit the copy as desired
- Your version is private by default
When you duplicate a public recipe:

Q: How many recipes can I create? A: There's no limit! Create as many recipes as you need.
Q: Can I use recipes without meal planning? A: Absolutely! Recipes are useful on their own for reference and organization.
Q: Are my recipes private by default? A: Yes! All recipes are private unless you explicitly make them public.
Q: Can I edit a recipe after saving it? A: Yes! Click the recipe, then click "Edit" to make changes.
Q: What happens if I delete a recipe that's in my meal plan? A: The meal plan entry will be removed automatically.
Q: Can I add images to recipes? A: Yes, via image URLs. Direct upload is coming soon!
Q: Can I have recipes without ingredients? A: Yes, though ingredients are recommended for shopping list generation.

Q: Can I plan more than one week ahead? A: Yes! Plan as far ahead as you like.
Q: Can I assign multiple recipes to one meal slot? A: Not currently. You can create a custom recipe that combines dishes.
Q: What if I change my mind about a planned meal? A: Simply delete it and add a different recipe, or edit the date.
Q: Can I copy a meal plan to another week? A: Not yet, but this feature is planned! Currently, add recipes manually.
Q: How do I plan for holidays or special occasions? A: Create a collection for the occasion, then add recipes to your meal plan.
Q: Will the app convert units (cups to ml)? A: Not yet. Use consistent units for best results. Unit conversion coming soon!
Q: Can I edit the generated shopping list? A: Yes! Once added to a grocery list, edit items as normal.
Q: What if I have two recipes with "chicken" - will they combine? A: Only if the ingredient names match exactly (case-insensitive).
Q: Can I generate a list for just one day? A: Yes! Set start date and end date to the same day.
Q: Will it include items from cooked meals? A: No, meals marked as cooked are excluded from shopping list generation.
Q: Can a recipe be in multiple collections? A: Yes! Add recipes to as many collections as you want.
Q: Can I share collections with others? A: Not directly, but you can export the collection and share the file.
Q: What happens if I delete a collection? A: Only the collection is deleted. Recipes remain intact.
Q: Can I reorder recipes in a collection? A: Not yet. Currently, they're sorted by date added.
Q: Who can see my public recipes? A: All logged-in users can discover and view them.
