4 Win/Loss Analysis Analyze why players choose/leave at each stage: awareness → install → retention → conversion → loyalty references/win-loss.md
5 Market Trends & Data Sources Identify genre, platform, monetization, and behavior trends; comprehensive data source guide references/market-trends.md
6 /competitive-brief Workflow End-to-end workflow for producing competitive intelligence briefs (inline below)
7 Templates & Specialized Frameworks Quick profiles, UA/monetization/overlap templates, LiveOps, ad creative teardown, retention-monetization trade-off, China market, competitor response modeling references/templates.md

1. Competitive Landscape Mapping

Categorize competitors into Direct / Indirect / Adjacent / Substitute tiers. Create 2x2 positioning maps along strategic dimensions (e.g., production value vs accessibility, PvP vs PvE focus).

→ Load references/landscape.md for full framework, mapping process, and output templates.

2. Feature Comparison Matrix

Rate competitors 1-5 across: Core Gameplay, Art & Production, Monetization, UA & Retention, Platform & Technical. Generate strength maps, vulnerability maps, parity zones, and differentiation opportunities.

→ Load references/feature-matrix.md for rating scale, all comparison tables, and interpretation guide.

3. Positioning Analysis

Build positioning profiles (target persona, genre, value prop, app store, brand, monetization, UA) for each competitor. Create positioning maps and identify open territory gaps.

→ Load references/positioning.md for full profile template, positioning map examples, and gap analysis.

4. Win/Loss Analysis

Track competitive wins and losses across 6 stages (awareness → advocacy). Collect data on why players choose, stay, and leave. Calculate competitive win rates by segment.

→ Load references/win-loss.md for win/loss stages, data collection templates, and scoring dashboards.

5. Market Trends & Data Sources

Identify trends across 5 categories: genre, platform, monetization, player behavior, market structure. Includes web research guide, data source catalog (free/freemium/paid/China-specific), and accuracy caveats.

→ Load references/market-trends.md for trend analysis templates, prioritization matrix, source tables, and freshness warnings.

6. /competitive-brief Workflow

When the user requests a competitive brief (via /competitive-brief or asks for a competitive analysis report), follow this 4-phase workflow.

Phase 1: Scope Definition

Ask or infer:

  1. What is your game/product? (Genre, platform, target audience)
  2. Analysis goal: (a) Full landscape, (b) Deep dive on specific competitors, (c) Trend/opportunity, (d) Pre-launch positioning
  3. Which competitors? (named or "find top competitors for me")
  4. Time frame? (snapshot / historical / forward-looking)
  5. Specific concerns? (e.g., "new competitor launched", "retention dropping")

Phase 2: Intelligence Gathering (Web Research)

Use WebSearch systematically across these categories:

  • Market & Revenue: "[game] revenue 2026 SensorTower", "[genre] top grossing [region] 2026"
  • Product & Features: "[game] latest update patch notes", "[game] player complaints reddit"
  • UA & Marketing: "[game] advertising campaign creative 2026", "[game] ASO keywords"
  • Studio & Business: "[studio] funding acquisition 2026", "[genre] new games launching 2026"
  • China Market (if relevant): "[游戏名] 流水 月收入 2026", "[游戏名] TapTap 评分"

Phase 3: Analysis & Synthesis

Goal Primary Frameworks Deliverable Focus
Full landscape Landscape Mapping + Feature Matrix Broad competitor map with categorization
Deep dive Feature Matrix + Positioning + Win/Loss Detailed 1:1 comparison with actionable gaps
Trend analysis Trend Identification + Positioning Forward-looking strategic recommendations
Pre-launch All frameworks Go/no-go competitive readiness assessment

Phase 4: Deliverable — Competitive Brief

Usage Notes

  • This skill is a methodology and framework reference. It does not execute scripts or call APIs.
  • For actual data gathering, use the WebSearch tool to search for market data, app store information, and competitor intelligence.
  • Combine this skill with the slg-project-evaluator skill when evaluating SLG-specific competitive dynamics.
  • All templates can be adapted — add or remove rows/columns based on what matters most for your specific analysis.
