Plans for High Sierra Support?

Not so much an issue as a question, since I wasn't able to invest the time with this to get Sierra running on my Hackintosh...do you intend to get this working with High Sierra? If so, do you have a rough idea of when that might be available to test?

I'm just wondering when I should be making plans to implement this, or if I should be looking at another approach for this motherboard family...

I've been slowly updating some related repositories (e.g. my Clover fork and the stripped DSDTs). Hopefully I won't have to make too many additional changes for 10.13 support.

@al3xtjames just out of curiosity, why do you need to have a separate clover fork ?

Also, have you tried/know about anyone running encrypted apfs on the system drive (on a hack) ?

The Clover binaries used in this repo are built from my fork. My fork has some changes (some Apple protocols and FSInject/FvInject/SmcHelper are embedded), but most notably I've rewritten the device property injections for HDA controllers and Intel HD Graphics devices (using the EFI_DEVICE_PATH_PROPERTY_DATABASE_PROTOCOL that Apple uses and boot.efi reads). It also has improved logging (so you can see what properties are being injected in bdmesg):

As for FDE with APFS, I haven't tried it on my GA-Z77X-UD5H yet (main install is still 10.12.6 with HFS+/FileVault 2), but I have on my XPS 15 (running 10.13 with APFS). It seems to work identically to FileVault 2 (in terms of the required UEFI protocols/etc), so it should work without any major issues.

There are known issues with Electron apps in HS (electron/electron#10736 (comment)).

APFS is still somewhat up for grabs (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/apples-policy-on-apple-file-system-apfs-for-high-sierra.230533/page-13).

Clover does seem to be mostly up to snuff (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/284656-clover-general-discussion/page-762), but who really knows.

I'm biding my time, I don't mind waiting a bit more before upgrading.

But I'd be monitoring early adopters :)

@al3xtjames is Airplay on HS working well? The Videos or Live Streaming on iTunes/Apple Music videos stopped working and I tried the latest versions of Shiki, Lilu, etc... and I noticed that Airplay started working with lag when I broadcast to my Apple TV. So continue to use Shiki version 2.0.3 and Lilu version 1.1.6 that resolve the Airplay issue but not iTunes.
PS: I'm using 10.12.6 with the last one supplemental update, and don't know if something change

Any updates on the High Sierra update? This branch has been a lifesaver for me, but I'm still on El Capitan and I will need to update soon (just got a spare HDD to do just that).

I've kind of been just waiting for someone on here to report success or post a guide on the update process before giving it a go.

I'm running High Sierra on a Z77X-UP4TH, but I've been using the Ozmosis mod from the Hackintosh Forum. It's definitely not perfect and I'd advise you to upgrade/stay on Sierra. Given the age of the board I do not have High (Sierra) hopes getting a stellar performance out of it.

I just did a fresh install of High Sierra after using El Capitan for the past 2 years, and so far things are mostly working. Benchmark tests show it isn't performing the best and I occasionally get suddenly logged out, but this is only day 1.

I did an install via UniBeast for High Sierra (UEFI boot mode), but whenever it booted made sure to remove the nv_disable flag (using a discrete nvidia card). So far it boots okay with the defaults provided by UniBeast.

@roboyoshi and @sman591 - thanks for the input. I find that a bit surprising, since I feel like this hardware should still be very relevant these days.

It might not make much sense for me to upgrade to Sierra at this point, so I might give High Sierra a shot when I do finally take the plunge.

@al3xtjames As always, thanks for maintaining this distro. It really helps those of us who don’t want to keep pouring new money into older Hackintoshes that meet our speed needs from spending more dough!

Since it’s been a couple months since you’ve commented on this thread, would you mind sharing a forecast as to when you might update the script to support High Sierra? From what I can see on your other repos, you’re obviously actively working on your Clover fork...however, the latest that your current v2.1.0 script seems to install is r4124-RM-development (just did a fresh Sierra install tonight). From what I can see elsewhere, we need to use r4173+ to boot High Sierra, no matter whether or not we want to use APFS.

If you aren’t able to give a good forecast of when you might be able to move forward on this, could you instead perhaps share some advice on how to move existing installs to “vanilla” Cover so we can gradually move over to that development string? Again, thanks so much for what you do — but between being a student and the sole maintainer of this distro, I’m sure it’s not your top priority at all and we’re all very appreciative of what you’ve done for us!
