Tesla Update has changed Powerwall behaviour so it no longer works #1171

Is there an existing issue for this?

  • I have searched both the existing open issues & recently closed issues and did not find a duplicate of this issue.

Version of the Tesla component

3.25.5

Version of the Powerwall Gateway software

26.2.0.87adb89e

Model

Current Behavior

Prior to the update I could force my Powerwall to charge by setting the backup level to 100% and the mode to Timed. To stop it again, I could set the value to 0% and the mode back to Self-Powered.

After the update, when HA send the commands to set these modes, the Tesla app reflects the change, but the Powerwall seems to ignore it entirely. This means that when I get a signal for an Off-Peak rate from Octopus, I can no longer set the Powerwall to charge during the cheap rate period. The same seems to happen in the morning when cancelling the overnight 100% backup I set. The Tesla app shows the change, but the Powerwall keeps on charging. After the adjustment fails, even changing the settings on the Tesla app don't seem to work. I have resorted to going Off-Grid to get it to discharge.

Example, last night HA set the values to 100% at 23:30. However Powerwall did nothing until 3:30am. In fact it allowed the battery to drain completely despite being on the cheap rate.

I have tried various experiments from HA to make things happen immediately as they did prior to the update, but to no avail. Powerwall just seems to be completely ignoring the changes HA makes now.

Not sure if anyone else is seeing this yet, I think my PW was updated on Thursday last week,

Expected Behavior

What I expected to happen was when I set 100% the Powerwall charges and when I set 0% the Powerwall discharges,

I really hope there is another way to achieve control. Tesla seems to have introduced a new "Backup now" timed mode that requires confirmation when you select 100%. This may be contributing to the issue. You now cannot select a charge rate between 80% and 100% either.

Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong and there is a better way? This method of controlling the Backup percentage has worked flawlessly for almost 2 years, but now my automation is in tatters and my bills set to rise

Debug logs

Log file is attached.

Anything else?

I don't know what logs will help as the Tesla app is showing what HA tells it to do, just the Powerwall is not responding, but happy to provide if you let me know what is required.
