Input file for VUEL implementation

Hi,

The input file to run the user element in explicit integration for Abaqus would require particular specifications with the masses at the nodal point?

Hi I have never used a VUEL in abaqus myself, but I believe the mass matrix has to be computed inside the VUEL. My code will not run with a VUEL (although it would not be too difficult to add the calls to the VUEL in the appropriate places if you wanted to do so). Best wishes, Allan Bower

Thanks you cery much for the response and your work, Mr Bower.
My question was about this code in the attachment of vuel where is compatible with abaqus explicit. I tried and the code is running when I submit with an input file for linear solid user element, however, kinematic energy goes far than expected with local distortion on the element where displacement is applied, do you think that would be due to wrong location of the existing calls that you mentioned?

HI I am afraid I dont know. The problem you describe sounds like an issue with stability (it should be easy to check whether the prescribed DOFs were applied correctly - although in explicit dynamics it is better to prescribe velocity than displacements to make sure the velocities are independent of the time step). But we did not cover VUEL coding in my class so EN234FEA has never been tested with that option. Since I am retired I have no way to run the code any longer and cant check. My apologies. Allan Bower
