2025 Update

The 2025 call is live now and it has an updated manual at

The call does not seem to be officially announced yet. In the meantime, all the dates in the templates have been bumped to 2025.

The Call opening date is delayed. The provisional Call opening is 08 May 2025.

In the meantime, there's a new updated manual here and those changes have been included.

I'll probably wait until the call is out to make an official 2025 release of the template.

I just found that some tags are missing (1.1:: #@QUA-LIT-QL@#) and some tags may need removal (#§IMP-ACT-IA§#) and some tags are in additional places ( #@QUA-LIT-QL@#, ) But I guess even the tags in given Officianl PDF (https://ec.europa.eu/info/funding-tenders/opportunities/docs/2021-2027/horizon/temp-form/af/af_he-msca-pf_en.pdf) seems incomplete or inconsistent.

The current version uses the tags listed in the rtf file that you can download after starting the submission. Even there, there's a version with instructions (like in the PDF manual) and an empty version at the end.. and they have slightly different tags. I've used the tags that are in the empty version, but overall no idea which should be used.. :\

I'm guessing the best way forward is to email to the programme and ask.

For what it's worth, I did try to contact someone from the program using this form. The first answer was just a stock answer repeating some parts of the manual. I tried to inquire again more directly (on Monday, June 2nd), but haven't heard back.. :(

If someone manages to get additional information on the tag inconsistencies, that would be great! In the meantime, it doesn't seem like it's a deal breaker if they're not quite right :\

I heard back from the MSCA Help Desk the other day and it seems like the existing version is pretty much ok as it is. To quote:

In case of inconsistencies, we advise using the template version with instructions, but we confirm that there should not be repercussions for applications including the incorrect tags.

For the files in this repository, the default font is set to 12pt in the first lines, here

You can just change that to 11pt if you want to aim for the minimum allowed.

For the margins, by default it uses about 20mm on each side and a bit more on the bottom. The template uses the KOMA Script scrartcl class as a base, so you can modify the dimensions consistently using e.g DIV=13 or something like that (check section 2.6 in the manual). You should be able to also use the standard geometry package to overwrite that like

\usepackage[top=1.5cm, bottom=1.5cm, left=1.5cm, right=1.5cm]{geometry}

The class has a layoutgrid option that shows a grid under the contents to get an idea of the margins, e.g. use it like

Using layoutgrid as you suggested and setting DIV=20 gives margins that fit well in 15mm and does it not mess up the top and bottom of the page as geometry. Thank you!

You can try

\usepackage[top=1.5cm, bottom=1.5cm, left=1.5cm, right=1.5cm, footskip=0.75cm]{geometry}

The footskip option controls the spacing between the text and the footer, so you can play with that to move the "Page x out of y" text up and down a bit.

However, using geometry does a hard override of whatever the KOMA-Script class is doing, so that's why it was not nice looking. Using some DIV=NN option should be more consistent.

You are right, this seems like much better option. So DIV=20 seems like a good option. However everything is fine with the option draftproposal. When I remove this option, for some reason the text "EU Grants: Application form (HE MSCA PF) V4.1" gets pushed out of the page on the top. But it does not happen with the option draftproposal.
