Tagify Roadmap 🗺️

This is a high-level view of where Tagify is headed.
Priorities evolve based on community feedback, technical constraints, and experimentation - nothing here is set in stone.

• Song notes: Attach personal notes to tracks (where you discovered it, what it reminds you of, when you first heard it, etc.).

⚡ Power-user features

• Automatic tag suggestions: Tag categories and subcategories will be recommended on creation (e.g., creating a "Rock" category suggests Metal, Punk, etc.).

🗂️ Organization & performance

• Re-organize tag categories & subcategories: Reorder categories and subcategories, and move tags between them (not just within a single subcategory).

🌍 Platform & integrations

• Mobile app: Companion mobile app synced with Tagify desktop. Tag your Spotify tracks on mobile and desktop.
• Import data from RateYourMusic: Import ratings and metadata from RateYourMusic and other music organization platforms.
• Integration with rekordbox: Sync tags and star ratings between rekordbox and Tagify.

• Tag & rate playlists/albums: Extend tagging and rating beyond tracks to playlists and Spotify albums.
• Advanced filtering: Mix AND/OR logic in a single formula (e.g., Tag1 && (Tag2 || Tag3)) for more powerful filtering.
• Automatic playlist creation: Playlists automatically stay up to date as you tag new tracks that match their filter criteria.
• Bulk star rating & energy level: Apply star ratings and energy levels to multiple tracks at once.
• Keyboard shortcuts: Customizable shortcuts for common actions (opening Tagify, applying ratings, etc.).
• Tag data optimizations: Migrated tag storage from localStorage to IndexedDB, making tag operations like viewing, filtering, and searching much faster and effectively removing current storage limits.

The mobile app would be epic. I have to imagine that would be quite down the road for something like that to come to life? Bulk rating and energy would be a very appreciated update as well. Thanks for the work you have done with this. It has literally changed how I use Spotify.

Bulk rating & energy is currently under development!
Mobile app is a high priority - but will take some time. Spicetify isn’t supported on mobile, so it will have to be a standalone music app - a sort of Spotify clone. I might be able to roll out a basic version quickly and enhance it over time. If the community wants it, I’ll focus more on developing it.
Really glad to hear Tagify has made a difference in how you use Spotify, that means a lot! 🎶

First of all: great work on the app! I just tried it out for the first time and even though it's a very daunting task to start tagging my entire library, I can say it is very well made!
As a frequent RateYourMusic user, I would be very interested in the possibility to import data from there, but I was mainly wondering how you were planning on doing this? What would the functionalities be exactly? Isn't this quite difficult to do due the lack of an RYM API?
Anyway, keep up the good work!

Based on my (limited) research, you can export your tagged albums from RYM into a csv file.
Further research is needed to see what exactly is possible...
From what it looks like currently:
I'll add a section where you can import the RYM csv file for your rated albums.
I'll then need to implement a fuzzy-matching mechanism where it'll match your tagged albums from RYM by name to the existing album on Tagify. (I already have a rough version of this in place - for another personal music project of mine - might release later :))
Once a match is found for an album - it'll apply that album rating data to all of the tracks that belong to that album.
And once I implement the ability to tag albums in Spotify - it will also import that album data from RYM to the album in Tagify.
Does this make sense?

As I said - more research is needed on my end. I'm not too familiar with RYM... I only learned about it recently from Tagify users.
But since many Tagify users are coming from RYM - it's a high priority to allow for this integration.

Hello Alex, with the upcoming mobile app, will we be able to play songs as well? Will it be fully functional music player for Spotify?

There will definitely be some challenges - but the ability to play music will be crucial.

Exactly what I was looking for to be able to better organize and enjoy my Spotify music collection. Very intuitive, easy to use and plenty of possibilities (and more coming, I understand, like album tagging and the mobile version, two additions I look forward to). In the past couple of years, I have used Roon (with Tidal and Qobuz) and SongTaggerForSpotify. You beat them both in terms of user experience and possibilities. Thanks!

How does it look with optimizing so it can handle more ratings?
Star ratings has recently stopped working, so now I'm trying to figure out how to re-organize it all again.

Hey! Thanks for following up, happy to hear back from you.
You’re right about the ratings cap, it’s definitely something I want to address.
Unfortunately, a lot on the roadmap got pushed back for a bit after I started a new job, which pulled some time away from Tagify.

That said, for the last month I’ve been back to developing daily, with no plans on slowing down.
I’m currently focused on a few high-priority features that should be landing soon. Once those are stable, scaling the rating system is one of the next bigger issues I want to tackle.

I completely reworked the way that tag data is stored: now the limit is basically unlimited. ♾️
I'll be testing this out for the next week before I ship this publicly. If you'd like to try out the beta version and let me know how it behaves, that would be awesome :).

Having trouble sending files by email. But this works - here you go!
tagify-v2.3.0-beta.1.zip

Backup your tag data before you install this!
Unzip this, and replace your 'tagify' folder at ~/.config/spicetify/CustomApps (Mac) or %appdata%\spicetify\CustomApps\ (Windows) with the 'tagify' folder from this zip.

Then after running spicetify apply in your terminal, you should be good to go.

I'm excited for you to try.
You should be able to store an unlimited amount of tagged tracks, and the app should perform much faster :) Enjoy.

Hi again! Thank you for this awesome update. I've just tried tagging everything from my rated folders and here is what I have found out. I started with the smaller folders and had no problems with selecting all and then bulk rating. When I came to folders with around 7-8000 songs it was a bit harder, but it actually worked fine with some patience, and letting it load a bit before clicking anything, but I would recommend doing 4-5000 at a time at most. It all felt a lot smoother this time around. Unfortunately when I reached my higher rating lists the problems came back again. The first one is a small one. My first 4.0 list with 8000 songs got tagged, but funny enough isn't shown in the "tagged tracks" section in tagify. From here on, I wasn't able to tag more, it said it did, but nothing happens, so it's stopped at 34304, with around 10-12000 left. It's a big progress. But don't know why it won't go further now. Otherwise it is working great. Here's a couple small screenshots, of where it's at now. I tried clearing cache, restarting and so on, before going further, but that didn't help either. If it's a help, the star-ratings extension does save it all, the problem with that is that it's not recognizing the 2 overflow playlists there is, so those ratings it won't find. Don't know if that could be any useful info. But yet again, it is an upgrade so far, and it's nearly there, as those 34304 only took around 10-15 minutes or so until the issue arrived.
