Feature: consider adding a 'close' icon to the input to clear it

Might be particularly relevant on mobile where, users can't 'click out' of the menu - you must pick an option (or clear it). Having a 'close' icon would help give affordance to clearing the menu.

Some versions of IE/Edge do this by default, there might be some investigation necessary to find a way not to clash with it.
