Autocomplete dropdown lookup can't be submitted by VoiceOver with these steps

While testing the dropdown component pages using VoiceOver, when navigating the list of countries(up/down arrow keys), attempting to select a country using the VO hotkey(Ctrl + Space), it appears the selection has been successful, however, on clicking submit, an error message is returned meaning that the selection was unsuccessful. Any idea to why this is?
