@kanyck thanks for the info, is it possible for you to provide a docker or some other way for me to test and incorporate Gentoo into the Github CI? I don't currently have access to a Gentoo system.

@waebbl had mentioned he would provide a Gentoo docker for incorporation into the CTL CI at the end of the issue #100 but has done it yet.

Do you know if GCC or Clang work OK on Gentoo and is the issue isolated to LLVM on Gentoo? Also, is it possible for you to confirm that LLVM works OK on other platforms?

Thanks for the reply. LLVM is currently the main compiler on my system and the whole system is built with it. So I'm pretty sure it works. I believe it's rather LTO issue. If you can tell where the missing symbols belong to, that may be a clue. It they belong to some library, building it without LTO may solve the issue. Tried to buildctlitself without LTO with the same result, so they're probably external.

@kanyck are you using the code from release 1.5.3 or the more recent head of master? Some fixes were added to CMakeLists that helped with some missing symbols in some configurations last year in PR #160 that has been merged into master but was after the release 1.5.3 was made. I should make a new release soon to incorporate these and other fixes.

A git version isn't directly available in Gentoo. Available options are only 1.5.2_p20221224 pre-release and 1.5.3 which I'm using. If you're planning to bump another release soon, I'll rather wait to test it -- I'm in no hurry at all. The only app in my system that uses ctl is ART RAW developer. It's not my main RAW editor, so it's a low-priority task to me. Please keep me posted. Thanks!

cb3373f - compiles CTL in a docker in gentoo using GCC
382de86 - compiles CTL in a docker in gentoo using LLVM

For LLVM, I tried following the instructions here https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/LLVM/Clang but it didn't work for me. I ended up just installing LLVM using emerge llvm-core/clang, adding clang to the path PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib/llvm/19/bin and then used -DCMAKE_CXX_COMPILER=clang++ when calling cmake to switch to use Clang/LLVM during compile of CTL

It would be great if you could have a quick look at those two commits and let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.

Also, @kanyck if you have any suggestions on how to configure the docker to use 'system-wide' LLVM, please let me know.

TBH I'm not quite familiar with docker favoring LXC much more. But there are still some comments.
Switching the profile does nothing but setting a symlink. After that you'll want to rebuild the world with emerge @world , then emerge -c to cleanup, and of course tune make.conf and run source /etc/profile && env-update to make the change effective. Also I'm not quite sure that simple emerging llvm-core/clang pulls everything you'll need. But when you rebuild the world after switching the profile you hopefully shall get a working toolchain.
