Installing a local instance and using it is very very difficult to anyone outside the developement team...

Hi,

Trying to get a local instance installed and running yields a lot of errors (currently I can't get past "ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'colour') and depsite the notes about docker that are present, a more complete how to is definitely needed.

With the Website frontend currently down my only option is to use a locally installed package, but I can't get that working either currently.

We should update the installation instructions actually! We are not using Poetry anymore but uv which should be the only requirement. Once installed and assuming the repo is cloned, cd into it, uv sync --all-extras, then uv run python index.py

Hi Kel,

Thanks... going to give that a try - but just a heads up, for anyone new to this type of compiling even thats daunting... for example, cd in to....uv, or into the idtmaker unzipped root folder.... I'm going to keep fiddling down this path and I'm logging all my steps into a notion doc and once I have it working I'm happy to copy and paste that back here... but for a standard user and not a dev, specially when you're on-set with lots of distractions and other todo task, trying to start this install from scratch is very tricky.

EDIT: - got it running by restarting - it needed run to get past that initial error.

Update, I managed to get it running (kind of).... here's a copy and paste of my steps (using @KelSolaar 's instructions, which are actually pretty straight forward if you follow them step by step)

Forum recommmended steps (#124):

• install uv - a poetry and pip replacement library manager.
  • in terminal: ‘’’ curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh ’’’
    • (I assume this assumes ‘curl’ is already installed)
    • See: https://docs.astral.sh/uv/#highlights
    • This puts uv in ~/.local/bin - I’m not sure this allows it to be run initially from terminal…. I think you first need to cc into that folder…. then, run it, then it should be available.. Maybe
• Clone the Repo of IDTMaker using github desktop from github - I have this installed in a dropbox folder AND I’ve got it managed by githubdesktop - at this point I also set it to my own branch in github desktop - but that’s probably not necessary
• in terminal, cd into the IDTmaker folder and run uv sync --all-extras
• then uv run python [index.py](http://index.py) from inside that folder
  • (Also already assumes that python is installed?)
  • You might need to restart and run it a 2nd time if it errors
  • You should see:

• copy the Local Server IP - in this case: http://127.0.0.1:8050/ and paste it into a broswer window in private mode.
• You should then have a local webinterface running.

For the team here, it might be obvious that this all runs via a browser, however, for an outsider, I was looking for documentation on how to run this all via terminal (as in all the steps) - Its not actually instantly obvious when you first start looking into it. But I'm very glad its available as a frontend.

Oh, @KelSolaar I don't just bear with you, I'm currently totally relying on you because, well, its amazing and there aren't really any other options that work anywhere nearly as well! ;). (I very grateful it you've done what you have and got as far as you have!!!)
