  • This bug is Not related to compatability with a specific game

Summary

Not 100% sure if I should actually consider this a bug with borderless gaming or OBS

I've been using borderless-gaming for a long time and love it. I've just updated to a 21:9 monitor and for streaming purposes. Mainly for some older titles that don't have the ability to keep the Hud within a 16:9 viewing area. So I was planning on using the background container feature to make a 16:9 resolution with 100% black bars to be OLED friendly. Seemed like a simple straightforward solution.

The Issue:
When using this background feature it causes OBS to see appcontainer.exe instead of the game.exe and will just display black if you select it. This has never been an issue in OBS until using a feature that uses the appcontainer.exe.

If I wait until OBS sees the normal game.exe then enable borderless it moves the game a taskbar width down. It can also change the game resolution slightly depending on the game.

Current Workarounds

  1. Use display capture to capture the whole monitor. (Privacy concerns as well as it doesn't let me side record the game as nicely)
  2. Open the game normally so that OBS can see the game.exe and select it. Now toggle on the borderless game setting for that game. Close and reopen the game and OBS will be able to see and record the game with sound properly. This is inconvenient but it does allow it to work.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Use a feature that uses the appcontainer.exe
  2. Try to select game from OBS Game Capture drop down menu.
  3. Disappointment ;)
