Can no longer easily select text to copy and paste

Something changed recently with the vscode terminal + claude code. I use to be able to easily select text and let go of the left click and Ctrl+C to copy, this no longer works.

Selecting text in the vscode terminal still works fine, but with claude code running, suddenly you have to either hope that the line you want auto-copies to the clip board when you select, or press Ctrl+Shift+C while holding the left mouse down and hope that it actually copies, sometimes it does not work.

1. Open claude code
2. Do some pompting
3. Try to copy text

Sometimes it lets you copy lines just by selecting without any Ctrl+C input
Othertimes it does not and it's not easy to copy paste as described above.

Similar is happening here for me too. Versions 2.1.148 and 2.1.150.

Using Gnome Terminal (in Linux), and Ctrl+Shift+C no longer copies the selected text to the clipboard. In fact, there now appears to be literally no way of getting Claude Code to allow text to be copied to the clipboard.

This is making using Claude Code extremely difficult now. It's not completely useless, but has just moved a long way in that direction. ☹️

Actually, the press-shift-while-selecting-with-the-mouse (as per #48033) seems to allow for copying to work. That's not ideal, but at least it works for now.

The issue is not only present at Windows but also Macbook Air users running Claude Code on VSCode Terminal

@isidorn @bcherny Can you please check this? Because developers are proposed to use the new /tui fullscreen as better rendering experience and many will try this out and will probably report false positives . Reason why i tagged both is because this issue is tied to VSCode extension itself of Claude code. When i start with the /tui fullscreen option in regular terminal the text selection would work. But if i would launch Claude Code via the "orange button" and use the terminal experience instead of the GUI this would disable the text selection completely. Hence i suspect the issue is on the Extension side and how the extension will launch the TUI or handle the rendering. I suspect the extension does interact with this vscode settings in some way terminal.integrated.rightClickBehavior .

When i was using (probably all others as well) /tui fullscreen - it would disable the text selection in terminal. I switched back to /tui default and this was working again properly.

As a data point with that /tui option, it didn't make any difference at all when I tried it a few days ago.

On a different note though, with Claude 2.1.177 (the latest version as of writing this) standard everyday text selection in Gnome terminal is now working for the copy function. ie select text -> Ctrl+Shift+C -> selection is now in clipboard

No need to press shift any more while selecting text. 😄

/tui option [...] didn't make any difference at all when I tried it a few days ago.

FWIW, /tui fullscreen breaks cut & paste for me, as in #62462 ; Claude Code 2.1.170, GNOME Terminal 3.56.3 using VTE 0.82.3 +BIDI +GNUTLS +ICU +SYSTEMD on Fedora 43.

This has been the most annoying thing I have ever experienced in my life. Someone at Anthropic please fix this.
