[BUG] Desktop app (Windows): spacebar presses intermittently dropped after long-running session; Ctrl+R restores #82011

Description

Preflight Checklist

  • I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

This is the Claude Desktop app (Cowork), not the CLI.

After the app has been open for an extended period (~12+ hours), spacebar
presses in the chat input start being silently dropped. It is intermittent —
some spaces register, most do not — so text comes out like:

"Forthe CMCCpatch,canyou breakoutpartsofittomultipleprintstoallowmorecolours?"

All other keys work normally, and the keyboard is confirmed fine in every
other app (e.g. Notepad++) while the bug is active. The bug affects every
conversation in the window, not just one input box. In one earlier occurrence
the spacebar appeared fully dead immediately after pressing Backspace
(single taps).

What clears it:

  • Ctrl+R window reload (immediate, session intact) or full app restart — reliable
  • On one occasion it cleared on its own after switching between two
conversations several times; note it had survived the first switch (spaces
dropping in both conversations), so switching chats is not a reliable fix

Not involved:

  • Voice/dictation: never used on this install
  • Alt+Tab / window-focus changes: not correlated
  • Held Backspace: single taps only
  • Images had been pasted into a different conversation the previous night

What Should Happen?

Every spacebar press inserts a space character in the chat input.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

Intermittent; not reproducible on demand from a fresh reload. Observed pattern:

  1. Leave the desktop app running overnight (~12+ hours).
  2. Type in the chat input — spaces begin dropping (most swallowed, some register).
  3. In one instance, pressing Backspace (single taps) coincided with the
    spacebar going fully dead.

Additional Information

Symptom resembles the spacebar special-handling family — voice push-to-talk
capture (#33737, #35013, #38968) and intermittent spacebar misbehaviour in the
input box (#16766, #16730) — but voice has never been used on this install and
this is the desktop app, not the CLI. Suggests the space-key handler is active
regardless of voice usage and degrades or mis-arms in long-running sessions.
