How to get parser to report expected token.

I was just reviewing the Antl4 ref book Chapter 9.

As I test here I only ever seem to get no viable alternative at input X error messages from the parser, I never see the missing 'X' at 'Y' error nor the extraneous input 'Z' expecting 'W' error.

Is there a list of all of these default error messages along with the specific scenarios needed to elicit them?
