Snowflake + BigQuery ADBC drivers for Java

What feature or improvement would you like to see?

Hey all, now that there's an ADBC driver for both BigQuery and Snowflake, I was wondering what it might take to have these available in Java as well?

Is there any possibility of creating bindings to the Go driver similar to Python and other languages, or does it have to be implemented purely in Java? Unfortunately, neither the Snowflake nor BigQuery JDBC drivers expose any way to use the Arrow results directly... you always have to go through the JDBC conversion. I'd love to be able to query those DWHs and keep the results in Arrow the entire time.

My plan is still to try to create JNI bindings, yes. If that's acceptable I'd like to start on that when I get a chance. The JDBC drivers would not be preferable for the reasons you list, but maybe eventually we'd have to work something out if pure-Java is a hard requirement.

Awesome!! I don't have much experience with bindings between languages so not sure how much I can contribute code-wise, but more than happy to help with testing!

FYI, there's some progress here: #2401

The bindings are extremely incomplete and after the initial PR I'd also need to set up CI/packaging, complete/test the bindings, and probably add a JAR that just packages all the existing native drivers for easy usage.
