I can take this -- I suspect the issue would be similar to several other flaky, unstable tests like these that probably just require some guardrails around them or more robust retries. I was able to reproduce the issue locally fairly easily via iterating over the test a few (50) times:

void testLogTableCompaction() throws Exception {
    // Run the test multiple times to reproduce flakiness
    int maxIterations = 50;
        
    for (int iteration = 1; iteration <= maxIterations; iteration++) {
        /* Body of test */
    }
}

which eventually failed similar to the existing CI case consistently:

expected: 3L
 but was: 2L
Expected :3L
Actual   :2L
...
org.opentest4j.AssertionFailedError: 
expected: 4L
 but was: 3L
Expected :4L
Actual   :3L
