Updating user metadata without writing

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I could not find a definitive answer. Is it possible to update only the user metadata after an upload without having to upload the entire file again?

Most storage services like AWS S3 don't support this since user metadata is stored along with the object together.

Jep, metadata is immutable. But I read rhat doing a copy from and to the same location allows updating metadata.

And on s3 there are also tags, which are mutable. Unfortunately opendal doesn’t seem to support this. Is that something that could be supported?

Yep, it's very possible to support attaching metadata during copy in OpenDAL (which means we can update the metadata for the new file). Would you like to create an issue for this? I can add more details there.

As for tag support, I'm a bit concerned since it's not widely supported by other services. I'm open to discussion if someone wants to do research and propose a design for it.
