Monitoring Amazon RDS

Hi Team,

I would like to monitor Amazon RDS as part of our observability stack.

Could you please clarify the recommended or supported approach for integrating Amazon RDS monitoring with SkyWalking?

There are two typical ways to monitor AWS relative services.

• For service has OTEL exporter, you could directly use. Ref to EKS monitoring, https://skywalking.apache.org/docs/main/next/en/setup/backend/backend-aws-eks-monitoring/
• For traditional services, I guess RDS is the case, use CloudWatch metric stream and AWS Kinesis Data Firehose to deliver data, refer S3, https://skywalking.apache.org/docs/main/next/en/setup/backend/backend-aws-s3-monitoring/

After the OAP Server receives the data, where does it appear in the SkyWalking UI? Does it integrate with EKS or other services? I need guidance on this setup.

It would not show up directly. You need to write MAL, and add a new layer for this new dashboard.

You also could refer to recent added Flink monitoring. The only difference is the metrics are from standard otel receiver, you need firehose receiver. All others are the same.

If I want to add OpenTelemetry (OTel) rules for monitoring AWS RDS in the SkyWalking OAP server, where exactly should I make changes? Please guide me through the steps required to monitor Oracle and MySQL databases running on AWS RDS.

I have written OTel rules for RDS monitoring. If I just add them to any folder, will the OAP server automatically pick data them up, or do I need to make changes in some other place as well?

If you don't read the example and docs, it's impossible for me to have enough time to guide.
The docs are clear. And previous pull request is also good.

This is not an one step work.
