Next Superset release date

The latest release of Superset (6.1.0) came out in May 2026. Since then, a major bug fix that's quite relevant to us has been merged, and we'd like to know when the next release is planned.

Hello! I think 6.1.1 release process stalled and (I am betting) won't complete. I don't expect a 6.2.0. The focus is on 7.0.0. The release manager for that is @villebro . I saw a comment from him in mid-August saying he hoped to cut the release candidate shortly but that because of all the breaking changes it was going to take a little while to stabilize.

I'll defer to Ville about any further updates, but the short version is, the next version will be 7.0.0 and it should be out "soon" for testing.

Thanks for the answer @sfirke! - @villebro please let me know more about the next release, specifically #37862 it's a pretty relevant bug that I would like to see it cover it in next minor releases. It's sort of preventing us to upgrade to 6.0.0 at the moment.

I feel confident that fix will be in there, a major release will split off master branch and this one is splitting around July or August so you can be confident it will be in 7.0.0

Isn't 6.1.0 to 7.0.0 quite a big jump? I was hoping you had planned a patch release, as often happens for important fixes, so they'd also be available in earlier versions (e.g. 6.1.1 or 6.2.0).

It's a good question. I could have sworn there was a 6.1.1rc1 that got voted down and then work just stopped -- but I can find nothing in my email or the web to confirm this so I'm probably wrong. It would fit the project's pattern to get a 6.1.1 release with bug fixes and security patches but I don't know of anyone working on it.

I don't think 6.1.0 to 7.0.0 is an uncommon jump for Superset though. I think typically there's been just a .1 minor release once before a major.

It takes so much work and time to get a release out that by the time one has shipped, it makes sense for the next one to be a major. For what it's worth, I have never found it hard to upgrade to a major (I don't build my own code modifications in) and always upgrade to the next major to stay on top of features and security updates.
