I know this isn’t the right spot to bring this up, but honestly, there’s nowhere else I can ask and actually get someone to pay attention.
So… any chance you guys might add native containerization support for macOS?
Native containerization (both OS-platform and Arch-platform) is incredibly important for developers—especially now that app development is all about automation and pipelines. It’s hard to imagine how frustrating it is to use clunky VMs as your workload! And for macOS on Apple Silicon? There are no third-party hardware options at all—only official Mac hardware. So on a machine like the Mac mini M4, you’ve got no choice but to manage VM instances through super complicated methods within macOS. Plus, this setup is really hard to integrate into k8s-based infrastructure!
Why would Apple rather offer tech to run Linux containers on macOS (like apple/container) than provide native macOS containerization? Whether it’s based on sandboxes, or porting cgroups (which seems pretty unlikely), even just a customized jails-like solution tailored for macOS would work!
