tet(34) really a tetracycline inactivation enzyme?

By the description of the function of tet(34) - ARO:3002870, it does not interact with tetracyclines or their derivates, which the tetracycline inactivation enzyme are supposed to do - ARO:3000036.

So, tet(34) confers resistance to tetracyclines but it is not an enzyme acting on them. The the parent term ARO:3000036 does not really fit tet(34), does it?

It appears that tet(34) was misidentified, and is actually simply xanthine phosphoribosyltransferase (EC 2.4.2.22). It is good to see from https://card.mcmaster.ca/ontology/39304 that CARD does not use tet(34) in the RGI.

I am trying to contact both a tet resistance expert and an author of the original tet(34) paper. I will post if I get new information on this.

I see that CARD reports that tet(34) is NOT used in it RGI. Good!

NCBI's Pathogen group has also deprecated tet(34), so AMRFinderPlus no longer reports tet(34).

This means CARD's RGI and NCBI's AMRFinderPlus now agree and jointly decline to report tet(34).

Marilyn Roberts still has a listing for tet(34) at https://faculty.washington.edu/marilynr/ , for completeness,
but participated in a discussion of NCBI's decision not to report tet(34) and is aware of the problems with the assignment.

I recommend now resolving this as complete.
