Images disappear from storage

I've been using this, and it appears that images disappear from storage after a short while. Is there some kind of expiration associated with the cache folder in which they are stored? Can we make it permanent?

Can this library be updated to optionally store the images in the Documents folder as they describe? It should then support permanent storage of the images.
