blank space seems to mess up subsequent lines on ruff format

Hi, just wondering if this has been observed before

I'm using ruff formatter in neovim

I'm trying to format these two dictionaries

but this is the result

if before i format, i remove the blank space on the line before the first dictionary, like so:

it formats correctly

Does anyone have some insight as to why that would happen?

I'm not sure I understand what goes wrong. Is it that user_document_params gets deleted in your first example or is it just off screen?

Interesting. Can you share your neovim settings? Do you have other plugins installed? Do you use range formatting or whole-file formatting?

hmm, yes i have quite a few plugins installed. Also, I'm using LazyVim to make sense of them all

The above example was a format on a selection

That would suggest that it might be related to another plugin. Or is it because organize_imports runs at the same time. @dhruvmanila is it okay to run organize imports as a neovim formatter?

I used to run ruff_organize_imports as replacement for isort, while still using black as formatter.. but now i could probably just use ruff 😆

It looks like this happens only on a selection format. If I format the whole file it does so without issue

Thx. I'm not sure if this is a neovim bug or maybe a ruff bug. I have to look into a bit more. Would you be able to share the source file (before making changes or a trimmed version of it) and enable vim.lsp.set_log_level('debug') and share those logs with me as well. I want to see what ranges neovim sends and if I can reproduce the problem using ruff format --range <start>:<end>

Oh, it looks like you're using the CLI directly without using the LSP. Is there a specific reason for it? I'd recommend you to use the LSP https://docs.astral.sh/ruff/editors/setup/#neovim instead
