Meeting summary for AsyncAPI Community Working Group Meeting (06/03/2025)

Quick recap

The AsyncAPI Community Working Group meeting, led by Thulie, covered updates on upcoming conferences, important deadlines for TSC members and maintainers, and plans for renaming channels and holding monthly ambassador calls. The group discussed the transition from an executive director model to a board governance structure, with Lukasz being the last Executive Director and expressing satisfaction with the community's growth. New sponsorships were announced, including IBM's renewal and Privacy's continued support, and participants were reminded of the next meeting scheduled for June 17th.

AsyncAPI Conference Planning Updates

Thulie provides updates on several upcoming conferences. The Bengaluru conference CFP closes in about 2.5 weeks, and she encourages submissions. Promotion for the Munich conference is underway, and the Lagos conference campaign will start soon. There's an ongoing discussion about distributing conference sponsor funds. Maya shares that planning for a 2026 conference has begun, with venue secured and design work in progress. Thulie mentions that website implementation for this is starting, but details are being kept under wraps for now.

TSC Governance and Bounty Deadlines

Thulie announced two important deadlines: TSC members must submit their Governance Board nominations by Thursday 10 AM UTC, and maintainers have until June 15th to submit their bounty issues for Q3. She emphasized that nominations should only be submitted after confirming the candidate's willingness to take on the role, and reminded participants to follow the bounty rules when submitting their issues.

Community Updates and Governance Changes

Thulie announced plans to rename the General Channel to the Web Community Working Group Channel and will post an announcement in the announcement channel. She also shared that monthly ambassador calls will now be held, with notes and recordings available to the public. Maya provided updates on the Code of Conduct Committee, including the handling of imposters from a May incident and plans for monthly calls. Thulie encouraged everyone to read and share the May summary and upcoming newsletter, and mentioned that nominations for the Governance board are due soon.
