What Dev Docs changes are you proposing?
As highlighted in #2204, the current onboarding experience is fragmented and does not provide a clear path for new contributors.
The following pages are currently under construction or overlapping in purpose:
This separation creates:
- No clear starting point for new contributors
- Fragmentation between how and where to contribute
- Potential duplication or inconsistency across pages
Proposed Solution
This proposal builds on the onboarding challenges described in #2204 and aligns with documentation improvements discussed in #1650, particularly around reducing duplication and improving structure.
1. Create a unified Contributing Guide
Merge:
- “How to Contribute”
- “Where to Contribute”
Into a single page with clear sections:
- How to contribute (process, steps, workflow)
- Where to contribute (platforms, repositories, areas of contribution)
2. Simplify onboarding content
- Move essential parts of the Technical Writer Contributor Responsibilities into the main Documentarian Onboarding Guide page
- Add a dedicated section:
- Getting Started for Documentarians
3. Improve navigation
- Replace redundant standalone pages with anchor links
- Ensure each section has a single source of truth
- Cross-link related sections instead of duplicating content
