BT Adapter cannot see controller Xbox Series X/S

[Zymcio]

Linux mint 22.2 in both PC and Notebook

Clean install on both but it only works without anything in Notebook like a dream in PC no matter what magic i am doing BT cannot see gamepad but other things can.

I tried installing xpadneo on PC but still dont work

I did upgrade to zena mint 22.3 still no luck after that clean install last cachyos with 6.18 kernel and still nope. I guess if this is not working from start like in my old laptop that mean it will not work in linux.

In windows in 3s BT see it and i can pair it i guess it must be driver issue and what i read mediatek is not opencode...

I was a bit angry i couldnt use my gamepad on BT then i reinstalled Windows did some googling and i found that topic.

Now whole MAGIC PART i just download driver for his Motherboard cuz we have same BT adapter RZ616 but ASUS have more up to date (2025) where Gigabyte only 2022.

Driver update works :) After that i just reboot to linux liveusb cachyOS and turn on BT and could pair it without issue after 3s it show up

I guess we can close topic but it can be handy for someone else

I do not yet understand why updating a driver on Windows and pairing the controller there would fix something. There must be more going on. Maybe the Windows driver updates firmware by flashing it into the hardware?

That said, some years back in the early days of xpadneo, there has been an effect where you sometimes needed to pair the Xbox controller to a different machine once, e.g. an Android phone, before it successfully paired in Linux again. I think the controller sometimes caches attributes wrong, and then it just becomes impossible to pair the controller correctly in Linux, and that would mean, the Linux Bluetooth stack isn't initializing all the attributes fully. Does this even make sense?

It's hard to figure out what's really happening. We can leave this here (it's already linked to the "Bluetooth issues" project) for future reference. But in the end, it's something that xpadneo cannot fix because xpadneo interfaces with HID, not with Bluetooth. So this is something that needs to be fixed in the Linux Bluetooth stack.

I did a few more tests, because I have 2 Xbox pads. You don't need to pair it on Windows to run on Linux. The only thing I needed was to update the BT driver from another manufacturer, as my Gigabyte doesn't have any new driver. Later I found a driver that can be downloaded from Windows Update and in the future people can look there (Windows Update catalog) or if the link is valid:

I can only guess this driver somehow update Firmware of BT cuz when i just switch to another one it stop working and then i return to that one and again it works.

#That was my last issue in linux and i did clean format whole disk (bye bye windows) and installed archlinux and it works :)

Did you update the controller firmware? Which kernel are you running?

Yep, I updated it to the latest version because of the dmesg log message. It only took me an hour because I had troubles getting the handful of dependencies for the xbox accessories app running.

I am now on 6.12.63 right now, NixOS.
