Creation of new branch fails

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open Atom
2. Klick on branch -> New Branch
3. Enter branch name
4. Close Atom after a while since it's not working properly

Expected behavior:

Branch should be created and set to active.

Actual behavior:

No branch is being created. Circling arrows indicating process are moving for ~1 min and then stop.

Reproduces how often:

Always.

Versions

Atom : 1.27.2 x64
Electron: 1.7.15
Chrome : 58.0.3029.110
Node : 7.9.0

Windows 7 Professional, SP1, x64

Thanks for the report - I was unable to reproduce on Windows 10 with Atom 1.27.2.

Can you reproduce with any project or just a particular project (I tested with a test repo that had a single file)? Also, do you see any errors in devtools console?

I dont have issues creating new branches, but I most definitely have issues creating NEW repos, but since I use a terminal and issue correct commands and still fails, so IDK where issue may lie.

Sorry for offtopic noise, I m still trying to figure out what bug to fill.

This is happening to me on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6

$ atom --version
Atom    : 1.35.1
Electron: 2.0.18
Chrome  : 61.0.3163.100
Node    : 8.9.3

Steps to reproduce, everything done from within Atom:

0. File > Add Project Folder
1. (create project folder)
2. Right-click on Project Folder > New File
3. (create new empty file)
4. Click Create Repository in Git tab.
5. Init repo in Project Folder
6. Add some text to the file
7. stage changes
8. click Branch icon at bottom of Git tab
9. click New Branch
10. type branch name ("master")
11. Press Enter or Return

No branch is created.

Update: actually the branch is created, but the UI is not updating to confirm.

After my initial steps (#1527 (comment)), if you click the Create detached commit, the branch is created → the commit happens → the UI updates to show that I'm on the master branch.
