Alternative choice for time period to generate average wind speed

Generation of average wind speed for the dynamic speed ranges is currently calculated over the entire period selected for the wind rose.

Might it be a good idea to have an additional option, for example 'hours_for_average' to generate the average speed that creates your speed range for the bar?

As an example, you might want the rose to show data for 12 hours, but the bar to be generated relative to the average over a 2 hours period when a wind storm blows through?

Probably not explained as clearly as intended, so if using 12 hours average the bar might show up to 20mph for example, but (here in the UK anyway) you may get brief periods where the wind blows through at up to 40mph.

That brief period may not affect the 12 hours average, but would show a significant % in the bar over 20mph generated by the average. If you used a 2 hour average the bar would change to show higher speed ranges more quickly.

I'm unsure what other options could be used to the same effect to be fair.

I have been having a similar problem with the dynamic ranges and was going to suggest changing the mean windspeed to max. I'm not convinced that changing the averaging period to something other than the display period would actually help to select the best range but max would.

If you wish to display data on a chart then you always find the min value, the max value and then select a range and tick level to best display the data. Using max and having a single windspeed of say 40mph would instantly change the range to display it and hold the range until the 40mph was no longer displayed.
