Step-2 fails on ISO device with Verify mismatch

Hi,
I got an ISO device running Manjaro 20.x. Unfortunately running step-2 resolves in the following errors:

• Touchpad isn't working anymore
• Keyboard works but not the special keys like dim or sound

Step-2

Same error was reported on: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=8875 but no solution worked for me so far.

Another weird thing is, that I got a high pitch sound now all the time (started in the middle of step-1). If I execute step-1 again it disappears shortly.

I also tried everything again with the default debian (booted from a sdcard) but with the same error result

@jevin36 just for kicks, have you tried connecting keyboard to the different USB port and trying steps starting from 1?

i just tried that too, but since I got the ISO the main keyboard is still working so my flow is either

a) do everything via ssh (but I need to login first on the PBP so the wifi is connected)
b)

- waiting for boot to finish
- switch to tty2 (no gui login before that)
- sudo ./updater step-1 iso in tty2 
- reboot
- sudo ./updater step-2 iso in tty2

I am really kind of stuck - wished I could at least somehow rollback

I saw in the Makefile that there s a usbreset programm (see extras), whats that for?

I'm having the same issue here, step 2 results in a verify mismatch. Have tried an untold number of times.

I finally did what I didn't want to do in the first place - I removed the part of the program that failed even though I do not fully understand what the author is doing with it in the first place. Either way - if I were you I would carefully think about updating the keyboard/touchpad because it might leave you stranded out there.

What I did was:

Commented the error return value -1 :D so the program just continues. Worked for me.

I have an ANSI keyboard and it failed on this.

It worked after I did the following:

• shutdown -h 0 instead of reboot
• use it from ttyS2, i.e. alt-ctrl-f2

I too am getting this error on an ansi keyboard. Luckily commenting out the return value as mentioned above got it working again, but a firmware updater that leaves the system in a broken state like this is unsettling.

Edit: After completing step 2 by ignoring the errors, the keyboard brightness controls no longer function. The other special function keys appear to work fine.
