Create a detailed FAQ for Backdrop 2.x #1054
Description
We seem to regularly get questions in the forum about 2.x, future support of 1.x. I've been pointing people towards https://backdropcms.org/news/what-will-happen-in-backdrop-2x and I've just added a link to that news page from the Roadmap page https://backdropcms.org/roadmap#2.0 . What I think would be useful is:
- a detailed Backdrop 2.x FAQ on b.org that is updated as our thinking develops and linked to any other relevant resources including meeting videos.
- a fixed link to that page from the forum site - like we have for Office Hours (this can follow in forum queue once we have this page)
Questions
- Should I migrate web to Backdrop version 1 now, or should I wait for version 2? How difficult will be upgrade to version 2?
- How long will be version 1 of backdrop supported?
- Will all modules be ready for Backdrop version 2 on the same day that version 2 will be released?
- Will there be an upgrade path from Drupal 7 to Backdrop 2 or will we have to upgrade to Backdrop 1.x first and then to Backdrop 2?
Any other questions?
I think some of the questions on here will be relevant:
- With no API breaks, what's the difference between minor versions and major versions of Backdrop CMS?
- Will the drupal compatibility layer be removed?
- Will other @deprecated functions, methods, and parameters be removed?
- What else will be removed?
- What new features will there be?
- Will there be a new theme?
- Will there be any breaking changes for my theme?
- When will 2.0 be released?
- Will I be able to upgrade through the user interface?
