A personal gratitude message to the author #168

@reactorcoremeltdown

Today, at 04:14 AM local time, my dearest, my brightest person on Earth, was pronounced dead. My mom did not return from a coma after her liver failed.

It happened deep in Russian suburbs, you probably wouldn't find this spot on the global map.

Why is this message here and how is it related to Databag? Because it was only a Databag instance I've spawned in Kazakhstan that helped me stay in touch with my family. The Russian government started blocking voice and video calls through popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, etc, exactly at the times my mom's health condition deteriorated dramatically. Even Google Meet fails at times. They want to force citizens to switch to the government-promoted messaging app that wiretaps everything directly into the federal security agency. Databag is my only lifeline now that enables me to hear and comfort my loved ones.

I've been living through a total nightmare for the past three and half years. The other part of my family, my in-laws and everybody related, are in Ukraine, fighting for their own survival. I can't stress enough how many times I was preparing myself to face the worst scenario, when bombs, drones, and missiles were hitting the civil areas. Yet, you are never ready for this, believe me, speaking from experience.

So this is my personal message to everyone here: fight oppression, fight censorship, fight dictatorships. They will take everything you love from you. Never give them a chance. Even your smallest contribution counts. "Never again" is NOW.

And once again, Thanks to the Databag authors and contributors for helping me to get through the hardest times.

P.S.: call your mom.
