Omarchy + Niri => Ochiri?

Niri is a scrolling window manager based on the Wayland protocol.
It could leverage all the amazing work done by the Omarchy community, think default applications, theme switching, waybar, etc.

Niri would get me to seriously consider Omarchy. I much prefer a scrolling tiling windows manager over a regular tiling window manager. I love KDE's Karousel.

After years of i3, I switched back to gnome + paperwm for that exact reason.

I was considering an omarchy setup on a new laptop I just got, but I can't find yet a way to add it there without tons of changes.

Hyprland with the hyprscrolling plugin is the best of both worlds until Niri is up to the same level as Hyprland. I'm running it right now and it's great!

Disclaimer: It's functional and usable, but certainly not finished. It's still a work in progress and some things still need to be addressed like some of the options in the Omarchy Menu not working as they are assuming we use Hyprland and I did not have the time to address them all.

I also don't have a lot of time to invest in this little side quest, so if anyone has an interest in contributing and improving this fork please let me know.

I will also create a pull request back to omarchy in case there is interest here.

So it seems niri support will not be coming to omarchy, see @dhh's comments on the pull request I had opened (#2042).
The decision is understandable and honestly expected given omarchys philosophy.

But this at least clarifies the path for anybody interested in a niri flavored omarchy.
Check out my fork if you want to try a niri flavored omarchy that tries to keep everything about omarchy as is and just integrate niri as well as possible.

I spent quite a few minutes to make hyprscrolling work on my computer, hopefully my experience below may help you if you are still in trouble:

1. Please follow @Phrozenn1 's link to install hyprscrolling plugin, not from AUR.
2. Enable the hyprscrolling plugin by executing hyprpm enable hyprscrolling. After that, run hyprpm list to make sure hyprscrolling is enabled.
3. Edit .config/hypr/looknfeel.conf to enable general.layout = scrolling, and add plugin { hyprscrolling { hyprscrolling configs ... } } section.
4. Edit .config/hypr/bindings.conf, append the hyprscrolling bindings:

I replicated PaperWM's keybindings thought. fit active is pretty useful.

Keep in mind that hyprpm reload -n can fail and it will break your hyprland init. In this case just change tty and remove it from autostart to continue. I faced an issue with hyprscrolling failing to start due to version incompatibility after hyprland update. I had to do the previous step and then hyprpm update to work again.

Pardon my ignorance, but where can I go to see the key codes?
I'm seriously considering migrating to Niri or MangoWC in the near future. The scrolling compositors simple fits my workflow better. I just have to steal the best parts of
Omarchy first ;)
MangoWC is a compositor I discovered just the other day, it is based on DWL, so it's extremely light weight and has native tiling, scrolling (both horizontal and vertical) and a few more layouts.
