after upgrade to 3.2 and install of ghostty, xdg-terminal-exec still uses alacrity

What's wrong?

I upgraded to 3.2.0 (from... 3.1.4? don't recall), and followed instructions from release notes to Install > Terminal > ghostty. Docs say this should automatically make it the default, but that is not the case for me, sys still defaults to alacritty.

I believe the issue is in filename change / variants for list of terminals for xdg-terminal-exec. In short:

.config/hyprland-xdg-terminals.list  .config/xdg-terminals.list

❯ cat .config/xdg-terminals.list
# Terminal emulator preference order for xdg-terminal-exec
# The first found and valid terminal will be used
com.mitchellh.ghostty.desktop

❯ cat .config/hyprland-xdg-terminals.list
Alacritty.desktop
org.gnome.Terminal.desktop

So latter, per-desktop(?) config is overriding the new spec.

If you remove .config/hyprland-xdg-terminals.list does it start launching Ghostty? That file isn't one we do anything with so I don't know where it came from on your device but it's certainly possible it's overriding.

Yes, removing the file makes ghostty the default, everything works as intended.

"where it came from": definitely wasn't me either, at least directly, since I'm complete hyprland, Arch newbie... :) I was rather assuming it was Omarchy as, at least the first entry matched what was default (prior to Omarchy I never used alacritty)... although the gnome-terminal looks suspicious, as I don't think Omarchy ever used that... odd, maybe some package I added with pacman had a dependency on it.

Looking at xdg-terminal-exec man page, one of the config files it reads is

${HOME}/.config/${desktop}-xdg-terminals.list

So I'm guessing ${desktop} would map to "hyprland". Unsure if "desktop" here refers to multi-head setups on a single machine, or multi-machine config (i.e., desktop == hostname)...

In any case, if Omarchy doesn't (or is not supposed to) write the desktop variant, then I'm good, thx.

FYI, from the README:

Configuration files are named ${desktop}-xdg-terminals.list or xdg-terminals.list and placed in XDG config hierarchy.

${desktop} here is a lowercased string that can be matched (case-insensitively) against items of >$XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP (a colon-separated list of names for the current DE) in order of decreasing priority.
