“Secondary Energy” definition in GCAM Report

Hi everyone,

I received a dataset from a collaborator where Secondary Energy is lower than Secondary Energy|Electricity for some regions/years. When I tried to generate Secondary Energy with GCAM Report, I got the error: The variable 'Secondary Energy' is not available for reporting.

Could you clarify how GCAM Report calculates the variable Secondary Energy? Thanks!

Thank you for your message. I've checked the pkg and Secondary Energy is not available for reporting (see the GCAM8.2 reporting template as an example). What can be reported are the subtypes of secondary energy, such as Secondary Energy|Electricity or Secondary Energy|Solids|Biomass. Thus, the error message you encountered is correct.

Regarding the dataset you mentioned, it is possible that your collaborator used an older version of gcamreport, in which the reporting of Secondary Energy as a whole was still supported. Let me know if this clarifies the issue! Otherwise, point me to the gcamreport version and the GCAM version used to produce the standardization, so I can assist you further.
