Understanding subdomains and overlap

From the way the subdomains are defined, it seems to me that outermost subdomains have fewer training points than the innermost domains, since the centers of the subdomains are on the boundary, half of the subdomain will always be outside the computational domain, is this correct? And if so, could this cause problems in particular conditions?
