Description

The DCAT-AP conversion to a LinkML Schema is the intended point of truth for the DCAT-AP+ schema, but could be used alternatively as a LinkML representation of DCAT-AP for other Projects. It is a port of DCAT-AP to the LinkML world that is as faithful to the original as possible. This Persistent Identifier does not only provide the SHACL Shape, but could also be used as described here

DCAT-AP+ is a LinkML-based extension of the DCAT Application Profile 3.0 that adds a provenance layer for describing how a dataset was generated and what it is about, using the Starting Point Terms of PROV-O, the QUDT ontology, and Dublin Core Terms.

This Prefix request is currently intended as a draft for https://github.com/nfdi-de/dcat-ap-plus/blob/main/src/dcat_ap_plus/schema/dcat_ap_linkml.yaml, as you have established in nfdi-de/dcat-ap-plus#73, that we don't have a registered prefix for this schema. As there might be some discussion as to how we should name the prefix (there might be a LinkML-based DCAT-AP schema coming from the developers of DCAT-AP and we don't want to occupy/block a prefix better suitable for the "original" schema) or whether we from NFDI4Cat/Chem should even establish such an Identifier, I would really appreciate it if we could leave this as a draft for now.

As for the open fields Regular Expression Pattern for Local Unique Identifier, URI Format String, and Wikidata Property. We currently don't resolve the classes and only have the main schema file available. As such, URI Format Strings and Regex patterns don't really make sense for our schema. And we don't link to Wikidata Property yet.

@HendrikBorgelt FYI, when you make a LinkML repository, you explicitly get a URI format string - see https://github.com/nfdi-de/dcat-ap-plus/blob/938bc67fa1d0bc375df07f6aca6b3fef328c5e0e/src/dcat_ap_plus/schema/dcat_ap_linkml.yaml#L59 in your line. This is the "default namespace" for the LinkML model

I would also suggest not including LinkML as part of the record - LinkML is only a formalism and it is not a part of the definition itself. It's like if you named an ontology for reactions the OWL Reaction Ontology

Maybe a better prefix would be dcatapplus

We have two different artefacts,
A DCAT-AP port to linkML, for which we will also provide a SHACL schema representation (https://github.com/nfdi-de/dcat-ap-plus/blob/main/src/dcat_ap_plus/schema/dcat_ap_linkml.yaml), findable at http://w3id.org/nfdi-de/dcat-ap-linkml
and our Extension DCAT-AP+ (https://github.com/nfdi-de/dcat-ap-plus/blob/main/src/dcat_ap_plus/schema/dcat_ap_plus.yaml), which has its own PID (
http://w3id.org/nfdi-de/dcat-ap-plus) and imports dcatap_linkml) from the PID http://w3id.org/nfdi-de/dcat-ap-linkml.

We decided against merging them into one to provide a DCAT-AP port for the LinkML community as a reference artefact.

The dcatapplus prefix will be requested in another issue.

@HendrikBorgelt last question - how do we feel about dcatap versus dcat_ap? I have no opinion either way, but would like to remain consistent

For the DCAT-AP+ and ChemDCAT-AP prefixes @HendrikBorgelt and I were in favor of snake_casing, since it wouldother wise look bad for the other modules like the material_entites_ap.

@StroemPhi @HendrikBorgelt one alternative, the DCAT-AP people use dcatap as their prefix, see https://semiceu.github.io/DCAT-AP/r5r/releases/3.0.0/. I think we should follow their style
