Description
This project has not been maintained for a long time and would require some efforts to keep the dependencies updated. All prior maintainers are not with the team anymore, so one would need to invest a lot of time. Also through other developments in the field, such as CVAT, many fully featured alternatives are available now with much more resources.
Considering these reasons and the potential risks of publically hosting this service, I believe we should sunset (shut off) this service and archive this repository.
The imagetagger hosts lots of dummy/testing image sets, that are not in any way relevant. I can only see the public ones, but presumably there are a lot more private ones. I am therefore referring to relevant image sets, meaning well-intentioned image sets with > 10 useful images, possibly with useful annotations.
Proposed steps:
- Contact all known users/teams with relevant image sets and notify them about this sunsetting process offering 30 days to download and export their data (requires admin/database access)
- Download and export all relevant public image sets and provide them on a simple read-only http file index archive.
- Wait 30 days.
- Shut off the service publically, redirect to archive
- Update repository README to point to the archive
- Archive repository
- Wait some more time before safely deleting the service and the database (not the archive)
