App switches language when adding calendar

My phone's default system language is English. When I installed this app, it initially displayed in English; however when pressing the "+" icon to add a calendar, the app seems to switch languages - the add calendar screen is in Japanese, and if I return to the main screen, that is then also in Japanese, as are all the menus.

I can only return the app to English by going into settings > apps and changing it manually. Attempting to add a calendar immediately undoes this setting and switches the app to Japanese again.

Possibly relevant: I have installed Japanese as an alternative keyboard language (it is not the system default). I have seen similar behaviour in a couple of other places, for example when visiting the tiktok.com website. However it is fairly isolated, the vast majority of apps and sites stick to English.

To reiterate the exact steps for reproduction are:

1. Default system language is english
2. Setup second language (i.e. Japanese) for keyboard
3. Open ICSx5 and open the add subscription screen using the "+" floating action button

Now the language switches to japanese, but should be english. Correct?

I can't reproduce the problem. Do you have more information? Did you install a different keyboard and do you use a custom ROM or the official Pixel UI?

Right. We got some keyboard options in the "add subscription" view related to entering the calendar URL. Nothing that influences the language though.

Maybe double check your settings? You could also try removing the japanese keyboard and rebooting the phone and adding it back. Not sure what it is, but as long as we can not reproduce it, or hear from other users having the same problem, I would assume this to be a misconfiguration or faulty behaviour of your phone for the time being.

Maybe even try installing a different keyboard and see whether the problem persists.

OK, I seem to have resolved the problem. Uninstalling the keyboard and restarting was not enough, however; I needed to remove the keyboard AND remove/reinstall ICSx5 before the behaviour was corrected.

The behaviour has not recurred after reinstalling the Japanese keyboard. I have also tested to see if installing the app while the keyboard was present triggered it again (it did not). I therefore think there was some kind of data stuck/corrupted within the app, something that only happens occasionally (hence why it has appeared in only a couple of other situations, e.g. tiktok).

Unfortunately I must report that the issue has returned. I do not know what triggered it, only that when I went back to ICSx5 today to try and work out how to get 2 way sync working, going to the add subscription screen again causes it to switch to Japanese.

I am sorry to hear that you are still facing the language issue.

ICSx5 can only sync calendars one way - it's only meant for subscribing to publicly advertised calendars. Two way synchronization requires a CalDAV capabable server and then you can use DAVx5 to synchronize your calendars.
