the phrasing in BUILDING.md implies you can pick either docker or crane to build your artifacts, but the current build system requires docker to function and i assume crane just removes the need for docker's containerd-snapshotter driver. if so, then this bit

Thanks for pointing this out! This documentation needs to be updated.

Since this documentation was written, we've modified Twoliter to ship and use crane internally, removing the need to use docker's containerd snapshotter entirely. We've since fully moved to crane as the backend for pulling images from OCI repositories, docker is not used under any circumstance.

I've opened #615 to just remove the OCI considerations entirely. I don't think there's much use in considering this as a builder, now that it is handled by Twoliter.
