- Anything awesome about combinatorics – Off-topic, but likely to fit in the Awesome Math list.
- Anything awesome about neural networks – Off-topic, but likely to fit in the Awesome Deep Learning list.
- Anything copy-pasted from the Wikipedia English entry on SNA software, which is embarrassingly bad.

Anything too expensive for undergraduate students – Exceptions:
- Software bought by universities (e.g. MATLAB, Stata, UCINET).
- Software bought by public (e.g. military) institutions.
These submissions have been rejected from the list after a contributor had a look at them:
- DAMN – Windows-only, documented as crash-prone, not updated, probably superseded by better alternatives.
- Network Analysis And Visualization – Mostly outdated or 404 links to Java libraries that offer less than those listed.
