Question: Possible to run Claude agent purely in Claude Code?

Hello Nick,

I stumbled upon this interesting project of yours and what to give it a try for a refactor of a large codebase. However, one thing I am not quite sure: is it possible that the Claude agent runs purely in Claude Code?
I ask because the recent updates to the ToS of Anthropic forbid it to run Claude in anything else when you are on a subscription plan. I don't want the risk of getting banned.

I have researched the matter regarding your question

agent-mux invokes Claude Code via its official SDK - it never extracts or routes OAuth tokens. That said, Anthropic's Consumer ToS Section 3.7 broadly restricts "automated access through a bot, script, or otherwise" except via API key. This creates a gray area for CLI wrappers.

The safest path: use API key auth for the Claude engine (ANTHROPICAPIKEY). agent-mux supports this. For personal/developer use of Claude Code engine via subscription - no enforcement action has targeted tools that simply subprocess the official binary, but it's not explicitly blessed either.

TL;DR: API key = fully compliant. CLI subprocess = gray area, low risk but not guaranteed.

I think we can not really know until Anthropic states the terms more clearly and you can close the issue.
