How does changing wallpaper able to change firefox dark/light theme in realtime?

I am new to this. I looked through the codebase but couldn't figure it out.

In general i can see how when choosing a wallpaper then running some application on that selected wallpaper to get the colors. But how does the colors & theme gets applied in realtime to running applications? for example: firefox
