What is the button above restart button for ?

like the title said what does that do ;-; , there is no change even i click on it.
I assume it is used for checking for updates ? am i wrong

You are wrong. Everything in the session bar is about session management. That button is the "suspend" or "hibernate" button.

i do think that the default icon is quite misleading

Well those icons are changeable with a recent commit, but do you have a suggestion for a better icon?

If you're migrating from Windows, you might be familiar with the Hibernation
This is somewhat similar to the windows hibernation
If you intend to check the SessionConfig.qml
it clearly mentions that the button refers to Hibernate,
The image shows it clearly

but it seems like the button isnt working correctly either

this may happen to a lot of systems when you have less swap allocated to system
for getting this issue on my Desktop, i lowered the swap and the issue is visible in the 2nd image itself
cause linux's hibernation works very diffrently as compared to how windows handles it
if you want to make it work, just increase the swap,
if you dont know how much you have allocated, check inside btop, resources, or MissionControl
it will be visible within the RAM section, or beneath it

if the button still isnt responding
it may be due to bad installations, or the issue beneath the code itself,
unless for me, it works when the swap is allocated more

i am facing problem that whenever i close lid of my laptop it hibernate but never resume but now i know the cause...
can you please tell me how to increase size bcoz i am very new to linux

umm. I appreciate it,
And for increasing the swap,
You could use(allocate) the /dev/*** for your swap, im not pretty sure for the name itself
Or you could use any utility that helps you guide via the gui
