Is it an intended feature for my notifications to never disappear? Sending
notify-send -t 1000 "Title" "Body"
should remove the notification after one second but it stays and needs to be manually removed. I have a keybind for this so it's not a huge issue but I'm just wondering (if this is intentional) what the design idea was behind this and if there are plans to change it.

Also somewhat related, what about "z-index" behavior for certain UI elements such as the notifications (and brightness/audio indicators)?

Currently, they do not display over apps in full-screen. For notifications especially, it would be helpful to display them over the app. I created a small bash script to send notifications regarding dropping battery levels and it's kinda useless if I am in full-screen most of the time.
(Yes, this includes hyprland's "fake full-screen" feature)

The main issue with this is that all UI elements are on the top layer which is below full screen windows. The solution to this would be to make more widgets on a separate overlay layer, which I can do. However, for notifications I don't think most people would want that (also it would be a pain to implement). The osds I understand though and will implement soon.

As an alternative to notifications showing above full screen windows, I'm planning to add battery notifications that would show above full screen windows

The notification expiry is a config option that was disabled by default previously, however as the config is currently broken it has been enabled by default in newer versions.
